The core of the Scientific Program

Six 3-hour thematic sessions form the scientific axis of this program.
Each is led by 2 Chairs and a Discussant, inspired by the issues addressed
in the clinical case discussions presented on the OESO-SEMPIRE Educational Channel.
(Extracts shown in the first hour)

Why this "Core program"?

Faithful to the original Q&A format inaugurated at its very first congress, OESO is now offering a difficult challenge to those who will be leading this central part of its 16th congress:

To succeed in offering the scientific community a general overview of Esophagology at the end of
3 days and 6 sessions, each made up of a very limited, but very carefully chosen number of questions.

Each session of the core program could have been the title of a whole congress. Each will feature answers to 12 questions.
In no more than 5 minutes, each answer will have succeeded to shed light on an essential part of the essence of the session's topic. They will be followed by a 30 mn discussion.
The whole synthesis achieved in the core program will be an illustration of the educational value of the OESO-SEMPIRE channel set up by OESO with Stanford during the Covid pandemic.

Yes!

Each of these sessions could have been the subject of an entire congress.
But by the end of our 16th congress, the content of the 6 thematic “Grand Sessions” of the core program will have been condensed into 72 high-level scientific answers to questions carefully prepared by the session leaders, helped by the 3 Vice-Presidents of the Scientific Committee.

So, the challenge will have been met.

The six Grand Sessions will have produced a concentrated message on Esophagology which will remain for each of us as a unique reward.
It will correspond in the best possible way to the title of the congress: " Esophagus 2024 "

Format of the sessions

At least one of the two Chairs of each session, will have already taken part in a clinical case discussion organized on the OESO-SEMPIRE Educational channel started in 2020.
Very shortly, the Chairs will be provided with the appropriate video(s) related to the case discussion to which they contributed

N° of recorded session on the topic

*
From now until the congress, each of the two appointed Chairs will have to carefully prepare
3 questions tailored, according to the specific OESO format, for answers to be given in 5 minutes. The questions will figure on the program of the congress with the name of the speaker considered as an expert in the domain.
The Chairs can be helped in this task by the Discussant of the session or by one of the three VPs of the Scientific Committee.
*
At the time of the congress, the 2 Chairs, the Discussant, and several speakers will be on the stage.
  • During the first hour of the session, they will organize an informal chat, which will be an original addition to the program.
    • Extracts from the videos of the clinical case discussions shown on the OESO-SEMPIRE Channel will be presented,
    • Then, a free conversation on the stage will allow the audience to grasp the reasons behind the choice of the questions that were considered to best shed light on the topic of the session.
This informal exchange can be based on the latest publications on the subject, and on the personal experience of those present.
So, the first hour of each session will serve as a preliminary introduction to the 2 hours that will follow.

  • After a 15mn break, each of the two remaining hours will address the 6 questions prepared by the Chairs.
The audience will be called on to actively contribute to the 30mn discussion that will follow the 6 replies given, each hour, by the speakers.

Through an agreement between the European Union of Medical Specialists and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credits to AMA credits can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications.

Live educational activities occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC® credits are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Information regarding the conversion of EACCME® credits

Credit will be converted based on one (1) hour of participation equalling one credit for all activities. Physicians wishing to convert EACCME® credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ will be required to access the AMA website at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applictations to obtain the necessary paperwork and instructions. Physicians and other health care professionals will be required to pay a processing fee to the AMA.
